The SMILE team is comprised of researchers committed to supporting the mental health of students and educators in prek-12 learning environments. Our research questions are grounded in the field of prevention science and focus on factors related to:

• Multi-tiered systems of social, emotional, and behavioral assessment and instruction;

• The design of classroom and school environmentsthat promote healthy social, emotional, and behavioral development of diverse learners;

• The implementation of classwide and schoolwide instructional programmingaimed at increasing student use of social, emotional, and behavioral skills; 

• The implementation of embedded professional developmentactivities that increase educators’ skills in understanding the intersection of their own self-awareness and student social and emotional behavior.
